Robert Lee "Bob" Heald

January 24, 1945 ~ January 29, 2021
He was born on January 24, 1945, in Ironton, Ohio, the only child of the late Donald L. and Jeanne Lawson Heald. His parents both remarried when Bob was young which provided him with several half-siblings.
He was married on June 14, 1969, in Neosho, Missouri, to Carol A. O'Hara. Carol died suddenly in 1988 and Bob lost the love of his life.
A 1963 graduate of Neosho High School, he received an Associate of Arts degree in Biology from Crowder College in Neosho in 1965.
He was a member of the Missouri National Guard while a resident of southwest Missouri.
Bob was employed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol as a Radio and Telecommunications Engineer beginning in 1973 and was stationed at the Patrol's Troop A headquarters in Lee's Summit. During his tenure at Troop A, Bob trained hundreds of state, county, and municipal dispatchers the skills required to operate Missouri's law enforcement computer system, aptly named MULES.
In 1993, Bob was promoted to direct the MULES training program for the entire state at which time he transferred to the Patrol's General Headquarters in Jefferson City where he continued to reside following his retirement in 2004.
While in Lee's Summit, Bob was an active member of Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church where he made many friends and served as the weekly ministry volunteer coordinator at Mass. Bob and Carol were active in leading “Marriage Encounter” retreats. Marriage Encounter was special for them as it was after attending their first retreat that Bob pursued joining the Catholic Church. After moving to Jefferson City, he became a member of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.
He was an active member of Bishop Michael McAuliffe Council 12992, Knights of Columbus, and the Dan C. Coppin Assembly 573, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
Bob was vice-president of the Jefferson City Photo Club and volunteered his photographic talents to his church and other civic organizations such as St. Mary's Hospital where he volunteered as an Ambassador for many years, and he was the recording secretary and host for SSM Mended Hearts.
He was a federally licensed General Class Amateur Radio operator, holding the call sign W0XII, was an active member of the Cole County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES), and was a past secretary-treasurer of the Mid-MO Amateur Radio Club.
Bob was a prolific reader and enjoyed many types of books and particularly enjoyed science fiction, dragon mythology, and Harry Potter.
Survivors include half-brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren.

Bob was a wonderful person, quiet yet passionate about sharing his knowledge if you would listen. He was a great co-worker and general all-around “good guy.” Knowing that he is again with Carol makes his having to leave us this soon a little less difficult. RIP.
We love you forever and always Bob. Warm fuzzies!!!
Bob was a great brother-in-law and a really fine man. Janice and I will miss him; and I am sure he will be dearly missed by many others.
We miss you now and always Bobby! Be at rest and in eternal joy now with Carol Ann. Surely God will hold you close in the palm of his hand.
Bob was always a shining light as a volunteer at St. Mary’s. His thoughtful and kind nature was very heartwarming. I have been a nurse at SSM St. Mary’s for many years and I visited with him often. Over this last year I have missed seeing him and the other volunteers. I kept all of them in my prayers and was worried I may not see some of them back again. But dear Bob I know you are resting with the angels and some day we will meet again. Prayers for all of your family and friends mourning your passing from this earthly world.
Submitting something on the lighter side about Bob– We came to realize shortly after he married Carol that he was a man who loved his electronics. He was the first to buy what was new on the market. Our son, Steve, was always happy to visit Uncle Bob and Aunt Carol because Bob would have fun stuff. Of course Bruce & I enjoyed seeing the new stuff, too. He was a fun guy.
One would have to look far and wide to find a more kinder, courteous and soft-spoken man than Bob. He was a Gentleman in the truest sense. I knew Bob through the JC Photo Club and MSHP . This world needs millions more like Bob . Rest in peace my friend!
Bob was an amazing friend. Wishing all who share this great loss warm fuzzies. I find comfort knowing Bob is with Carol now. Hugs.
Bob was a very kind hearted person. Always saw the good in people. Bob volunteered for me at St. Mary’s. When ask if he could assist with a duty he would always say absolutely and when greeting a person he would always say “Well hello there”. He will truly be missed. Mary Kay Hoelscher
Bob, we will miss you. You had a warm fuzzy heart of gold. You were like an uncle to my sister and I, and a great friend. I will try my best to have all four food groups in your honor today.
Our sympathy to Bob’s family and friends. We recall his great enjoyment of Neil Diamond’s music. Bob was a soft-spoken man, who shed his photography talent with many. May Bob’s soul rest in eternal peace. Joe and DIane Stockbauer
so sorry for you loss i knew him from the highway patrol and saw him a lot at st marys hospital when he was volunteer there he was a very nice man always friendly and smiling
My uncle Bob was a gem of a man. Will always think of him when I hear Neil Diamond or Manheim Steamroller at Christmas. Eternal happiness with Carol Ann is now his.
I was saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. He greeted me nearly every morning when I entered the hospital. Many times I’d stop to chat and we always had a good laugh about something; it started my day off well! His kindness and compassion towards myself and others will not be forgotten. My condolences to Bob’s family and all who loved him. Rest In Peace Dear Friend.
Bob was a wonderful person. I knew him from working at St Marys for many years. He was a greeter and then volunteered at the front desk, often in place of an employee. He was always so helpful and friendly to everyone. I pray God provides comfort his family and friends.
