Ronald L. Smith

Ronald L. Smith, 61 of Ashland, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia.

He was born July 7, 1964, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Billy and Shirley (Cole) Smith.  Ron grew up in Alabama and Virginia, and after graduating from high school, he was a singer for PTL (Praise the Lord Ministries), and Christian groups, Covenant, Lee Singers, and New Harvest, as well as attending Lee University and East Coast Bible College.  On December 8, 2012, Ron married Barbara Branson at their home in Mississippi.

He worked as a manager for several restoration companies in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Missouri, and was currently working at the Jefferson City location.

Ron loved the Lord and was devout in studying the Bible every day.  He shared his ministry and spiritual guidance with thousands of people over the years relating to God’s word, and from real life situations using teachings from the Bible.  He served as a Director of Music and Youth Pastor at several Church of God churches located in Detroit, Virginia and Tennessee.

Ron and Barb enjoyed exploring the backroads and towns of many states, even seeing a sign on the side of the road while driving and deciding they wanted to go see what it was all about.  If Ron wasn’t taking pictures or telling “Dad” jokes (he should have a medal), you could find him cheering for his favorite team, Alabama Crimson Tide.  “Roll Tide!”

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, two step-children, Crystal and Samantha Yates of Tennessee, three step grandchildren, Alyssa, Mariana and Connor, and brother, Rick Smith of Poplar Bluff, MO, and preceded in death by his brother Randy Smith.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Trimble Funeral Homes-Jefferson City.  A celebration of Ron’s life will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at a later date at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

  1. DAD Mom loves you very much. You must be so proud of her. I know we are so proud to call you our stepdad. We love and miss ya. We are all HERE TOGETHER. XOXO

  2. Will miss Ron’s wonderful bible truth on Facebook. I did not know him in person or ever meet, but definitely was a brother in Christ, and know this is a difficult time and season when a loved one passes. BUT, eternity awaits us all! We are comforted in knowing he is singing now for Jesus in heaven , but as a whole glorified, resurrected body and 100% whole, no more tears, no more sorrow, only JOY! God bless his wife and family. May the Lord give them peace that passes ALL understanding during this grief season off loss here on earth, but heavens gain

  3. I am Ron’s 2nd Cousin and I live in Dallas, Texas! His Grandfather Rev. William Smith was my precious Mother’s older Brother. She was the Baby of 10 and was the last one of that incredible Family to pass away. (1923/2019) She was Ron’s Great Aunt Mary Alma Smith Sanders. My deepest condolences to his lovely Wife and Family at such a very sad time. Prayers for all! 🙏

  4. Thanks for sharing the beautiful memories of Ron’s life. I’m his cuz in Fox, AR. I’ve been out of town, and I hate I wasn’t here for the service. Blessings & Live! Aliza & Tim Cummings
