Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I have so many great memories of spending part of my school summer vacations with Shirley at her home when we were kids. We were always outside or in the barn where our imaginations would take to many places. We’d “can” pickles, make mud pies, drive our horseless wagon to all the pretend neighbors delivering our pies and pickles. One of my favorite jobs was putting ears of corn in something like a grinder that would take all the kernels off the ears so we could feed the chickens. Being raised in the city our weeks up there were always a great adventure that I will always cherish. We made snow ice cream in the winter and went sleigh riding down the huge hill next to the house. I will always smile when I think of her and the great fun time we had together. Will miss you, Shirley, but I know you’re with your parents, brothers, and my parents too, and are all having an awesome reunion.

  2. Vincent, Glenn, Anita and family:

God gained an angel on Sunday. I hope you can find solace knowing she is with the Lord. I consinder myself extremely blessed to have had “Squirrely Shirley” in my life. I considered her one of my “At-work-Moms” when I was working with her at Gerbes during college and enjoyed our many years of making sweet potatoes at the fall supper. We always had to share jokes and laugh together whenever we would see each other. She is truly a one of a kind and I, as well as many other people, will miss her greatly.

    God bless you all.

  4. I met her during a short training stay at Gerbes Superstore. She made me laugh so much, I wanted to work with her every day. I just saw her recently, and she was full of life.

  5. Words can’t express the grief the Taos Community is experiencing this week. We have truly lost part of the backbone

that makes up this community. Shirley was one of those people that we thought would go on forever. Well she is – she is just at a higher level now. And so well deserved. My thoughts and prayers

are with you all. Be proud of the wonderful person that your

wife and mother was. We will always have many fond memories

of her. God bless you all–

  7. Being the “non-cook” that I’ve always been, anytime my office had a party where we were all to bring food, someone would generally ask, “What are your bringing?” My answer was always the same, “Whatever Aunt Shirley is making”. Seeing and talking to Shirley when she worked at Gerbes always brought sunshine to my days. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

  8. Shirley touched some many with her “wit” and upbeat persona. It was a true pleasure to have known her. She was indeed a master at her craft. The world needs more like her. “Fair Winds & Following Seas Shirley”.

  9. Glenn & family—so sorry to hear about Shirley’s passing. You are in our thoughts & prayers. Tony, Melanie, Jacob & Luke Kirkweg

  10. I will never forget Shirley! I worked with her in the bakery at Gerbes. We would laugh and talk all day and the time just flew by. I was always amazed by her talent! I consider her a very close and loving friend and feel extremely blessed to have had her touch my life.

I will miss her happiness and willingness to help even when she had been in her feet umpteen hours.

    Love always,

    Beth Linnenbrink Nivens

  13. Vince, Anita, & Glenn: I’m so sorry to hear about Shirley. She was a wonderful woman. She made the cake for my wedding and did a fantastic job. I will miss her. My grandpa (Ray Kliethermes) thought the sun rose and set in her. He talked about it all the time. She’s up in Heaven with her parents & Uncle Ray and having a grand old time. Keep the faith and I’ll pray that God wrap his arms around you.

  15. Dear Prenger Family,

I am sorry to read of your loss. When a loved one dies we can look to Jehovah God for comfort and hope. At Isaiah 25:8 it says “He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” Through this scripture we see that one day we will not have to fear death. No one will die, can you imagine such a time? Jehovah God does not want to see us sad so he will make death cease and in a sense he is wiping away our tears. What a loving God we have to serve. I hope this thought helps you cope and remember to look to Jehovah God for comfort and hope.

  17. I was fortunate enough to know Shirley for about 10 years and loved her like a sister. She helped me through my teenage years. We loved to tease each other and just had a lot of fun. I’m sorry that she is gone.
