Thomas Michael “Tim” Steuber, 91, of Holts Summit, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Heisinger Bluffs surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 24, 1934, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of William Joseph and Helen Mary (Tighe) Steuber.

He was a 1952 graduate of Christian Brothers High School in St. Louis. He went on to graduate from St. Louis University.

Tim was united in marriage on January 7, 1956, in Webster Groves, Missouri to Joyce Mary (O’Connell) Steuber who preceded him in death on July 20, 2022.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Holts Summit.

In his younger days, he was a proud concrete finisher in the St. Louis area. Tim worked for the Missouri Division of Employment Security, where he became Assistant Chief of the Division, working tirelessly until retirement.

Tim had a passion for poetry at a youthful age and was an avid reader and a gifted poet. When time permitted, one might find him in his recliner with a novel. Along with the endless chores and upkeep of the house, he still found snippets of time to read.

One of his many interests included gardening. While Tim and Joyce spent their time raising nine children, time was found to nurture yet another passion – that of gardening. Tim and Joyce spent countless summer hours with a dining room table full of vegetables, canning into the wee hours of the morning.

Carpentry was yet another passion as well as a necessity. Tim spent countless hours working to maintain a home of nine children, staying with a project until mastered. A screened porch was necessary, and the most important part of the house.

On occasion, you might see Tim loading his boat into the back of his old truck, as fishing was yet another passion. He would find solace at Binder Lake. Peace and quiet was found there along with food for the family. Many an early Saturday morning, he would strike out on his own and bring a stringer full of fish home to fry that evening for dinner.

In tandem with his love of fishing, came his love of hunting – yet another avenue to feed his family while relishing in nature. He was an accomplished bow hunter, taking deer on a regular basis. Upon retirement, Tim and Joyce moved to Lake Pomme de Terre, exploring living in the country. Tim spent time on the lake, catching scores of fish with his family. Countless weekends were spent with his family on the screened porch he built, yet once again, for the love of his life, Joyce.

In his later years, an interest in cooking and baking came to the forefront. With extensive practice and determination, he perfected the baking of an apple pie. He became the pie baker for every Steuber holiday.

Tim was a quiet man, a man of few words. When he spoke, one listened. He never wavered on his commitment to Joyce and their children. Steadfast and determined. Loyal and true.

Survivors include his eight children, Tim (Jackie) Steuber, Cross Timbers MO; Kathi (Paul) Rost, Niwot, CO; Janis (Jim) Kennedy, St. Louis; Michael (Shigeko) Steuber, Honolulu, HA; Mary Paden Otto, Jefferson City; Angie (Scott) Mahon, Englewood, CO; Pat (Cindy) Steuber, Columbia, MO; Colleen (Greg) Backers, Lebanon; one daughter-in-law, Dajia Steuber, Jenkintown, PA; 19 grandchildren, Madi, Tim, Jesse, Whitney, Samantha, Molly, Liz, Sally, Chiho, Gretchen, Jacob, Courtney, Hunter, Taylor, Paige, Stefan, Caleb, Tighlie and Mason; 17 great-grandchildren.

Guestbook

  1. Tim was a good man who will be missed by a lot of childhood friends. Deepest sympathy to the entire family.

  2. Mr Steuber and his wife raised several talented and creative children. His son Will was my son in law. How blessed we were.
My condolences to all the family at this very sad time

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about gruffy sweet uncle Tim. 😢. I have some great memories with all my Steuber cousins and uncle Tim and aunt Joyce. I am sure that uncle Tim was the only person in the world that could round up 14 kids within 30 seconds. He was such a sweetie at heart! ❤️
Thinking of all his family and friends and praying for peace and comfort from your memories. Love you all. 🥰
    Cousin ‘Kimmy’

  4. Our deepest sympathies to the Colleen and family and all the Steuber families.
Life is not the same after parents leave this earth but know dad is in a better place.
Let perpetual light shine upon him.

  5. I never really knew Mr. Steiner, but I know the Steuber kids and they were wonderful. It takes really good parents to raise kids like that so I am sure he was a terrific man. May God be with the Steuber family at this difficult time.

  6. God Bless all of you at this time. Our deepest sympathies for the entire family as you celebrate his life and relive precious moments.

  10. So very sorry for your loss. What a great person. A mountain of a man. I admired his strength, which one could observe by simply seeing his face, let alone shaking his hand. Glad that we had the opportunity to know him.

  11. Thank you Tim for giving me the greatest gift, your son, Will. As well as what came with him – his beautiful loving siblings. I will be forever thankful and blessed. I remember the first time meeting you and Joyce. You made homemade hamburger buns, burgers from deer you hunted, tomatoes from your garden and eggs from the chickens in the backyard. Your head was often buried in a thick novel if you weren’t outside making improvements in the yard. When you spoke, we all listened. You will be missed and always remembered.
