William Joseph Bill Luetkemeyer, 55, of Jefferson City, went peacefully to God, Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 30, 1956, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Herman William Luetkemeyer and Barbara Mullen Luetkemeyer. His mother survives in Jefferson City.
He was a 1975 graduate of Helias High School.
He was united in marriage on December 4, 1992, in Jefferson City, Mo, to Melissa Sue Mosley of California, Mo, who survives at the home.
Bill was employed by Roger and Catherine Mertens at their Clark Ave Station. On July 1, 1977, he became full time at their Mertens Mini Mart (Valero) on Southwest Blvd, which he later managed until his death.
Growing up, Bill loved camp outs with his friends and family on the family farm, playing softball with his friends and neighbors, and also holding a yearly hog roast with friends.
Bill loved sports. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers fan.
Bills life was his family and his work. He loved joking and visiting with his customers at Mertens. Bill never knew a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Bill had a big heart and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Melissa of 19 years; his mother, Barbara Luetkemeyer; one sister-in-law, Diane (Vince) Schulte, Jefferson City; three brothers-in-law, Mark (Mary) Mosley; Bob (Carol) Mosley; Brian Mosley, all of California; father-in-law and step-mother-in-law, Eddie (Doris) Mosley, California; many aunts and uncles; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman William Luetkemeyer; and his mother-in-law, Betty Mosley.
Funeral Services will be 3 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt, officiating.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.

  2. I was saddened to see that Bill had passed away. When I moved here from another state, I lived in the area and went to Mertens for gas. Bill always washed my windshield and was so kind. A hard working man with a huge heart. May I extend my sincere sympathies for your loss.

  6. Barb, I’m so sorry to learn of Bill’s passing. I didn’t get to talk to you at Goldschmidt when I saw you there. I was taking radiation and chemo at the time. I have Stage IV lung cancer so trying to fight that.Please know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers!

  7. I am shocked to read about Bill’s death. I have been a customer of Mertens for years and one of those reasons is because of Bill. His infectious smile and outgoing personality will never be forgotten. He will be missed – everytime I go to the service station I will remember Bill and his big smile.Rest in peace, my friend and thanks for the friendship!
