Albert Junior Hawkins, 92, of Jefferson City, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on July 24, 1917, in Callaway County, the son of the late Allen Curtis and Myrtle Reynolds Hawkins. He was married on June 8, 1940, in Jefferson City, to Lorene Lucille Warren. He was later married on Dec. 24, 1955, in New Florence, Mo. to Viola Eunice Connor who preceded him on May 19, 2008. Mr. Hawkins was a custodian at the Mo. State Capitol for nineteen years; a truck driver for the Mo. Dept. of Revenue for ten years; and was employed in the Housekeeping Dept. at the former Still Hospital for seventeen years until retiring in 1994. He also provided janitorial services for many years to several small businesses in Jefferson City. He was a life-long member of Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Holts Summit where he served as usher and caretaker of both the church and cemetery. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Survivors include three daughters, Shirley (William) Perry, Grandview, Mo.; Renee (Shannon) Kelly, Spring Hill, Kans.; and Mary Hawkins-Wahid, Jefferson City; six sons, Delroy (Ann) Hawkins, St. Paul, Minn.; Stanley Hawkins, Jefferson City; James (Jodie) Hawkins, Lincoln, Neb.; Fredrick (Sandy) Hawkins, Raytown, Mo.; Craig (Kelly) Hawkins, Jefferson City; and George Hawkins, Columbia, Mo.; two step-daughters, Carolyn Connor, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and Janice Watson, Jefferson City; two step-sons, Phillip (Wanda) Connor, Jefferson City, ; and Ernest (Rhonda) Connor, Holts Summit, Mo.; twenty-eight grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Hawkins and Larry Britt; one sister, Hattie Hawkins; and an infant sister. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, Holts Summit, with the Rev. Gordon Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1st, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
