Alfred Otto Koetting, 79, of Osage Bend, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 3, 1944, in Mary’s Home, Missouri, the son of Lawrence William and Hilda Angeline (Rehagen) Koetting.

Alfred was united in marriage on October 10, 1964, at St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend to Janet Mary Wolken who resides at the home.

He worked his career for various companies including Tharp Lumber Company, Stockman Construction, Lepper Machine Shop, Jerry Kampeter Hauling, Jeff CO Quarries, and Roweth Sand and Gravel/ Capital Sand Company where he retired as manager. Together with his wife, they owned and operated for many years Koetting General Store in Osage Bend.

He was a member of St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend.

Alfred was the unofficial mayor and sheriff of Osage Bend. He had skilled artistic hands and a servant’s heart. A “jack of all trades,” he could fix and create almost anything. He learned much as a schoolboy from Fr. Lorenz in Mary’s Home. Father, either feeling sorry for the nuns or for Alfred, would call him out of class to “help” him fix and repair almost everything around the church, school, and parish property. This became a valuable lesson for Alfred as he continued into adulthood his service to his church. He became the righthand man fixing whatever needed to be done on the church property and cemetery.

Alfred’s legacy to his large family was his sense of caring not only for his family, but also for his community and his church. In addition, his sense of humor continued all the days of his life, including joy with his family to the very end.
