Allene Ruby Howser Sanders

Allene Ruby Howser Sanders, 74, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Provision Living in Columbia, Missouri.
She was born June 19, 1944, in St. Thomas, Missouri, the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred (Schulte) Boessen. She spent her early life living and working with her family on the farm. It was these years that formed the foundation for her work ethic, her love of family and her strong Catholic faith.
She was a 1962 graduate of Helias High School. While there she met her future husband and was united in marriage on June 20, 1964, in St. Thomas, to Don Howser. They spent 35 wonderful years together, raising a family of three kids and running the family business, Howser Electrical and Mechanical. Don preceded her in death on August 29, 1999.
Allene enjoyed cooking and serving many meals with her mother and sister at Boessen Catering. She was a bank teller at the Farmers Bank of Lohman in St. Martins. After a short time living in Kansas City, they returned to live in Wardsville. She finished her working career as an administrative assistant at the State Capital for 8 years retiring in 2009.
She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, where her children attended grade school and she served on the parish council and school board. Allene was a member of the Ladies Sodality of St. Martins, Vitae Society, Helias Booster, and was a St. Mary's Hospital volunteer. She also valued and loved her time as a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville, where she lived during the final years of Don’s illness.
She enjoyed dancing, reading crime mystery novels, fabric painting and crafts, traveling, riding on a Harley with Don, and also working with their Black Lab dogs. She spent countless hours caring for, playing with and loving her grandchildren.
She married Lee Roy Sanders, February 2007.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. Allene was gentle mannered and when she gave advice it was simple to understand and truthful. She was always ready to give a hug and a smile and she deeply loved her entire family. She passed away peacefully in her sleep and was called home to our Lord after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Survivors include three children, Cynthia Panza, Grain Valley, MO; Don (Suzanne) Howser Jr., Columbia; Shellie Howser, Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Anna (Drew) Linneman, Columbia, MO; Catherine Howser, Dallas, TX; Ben Howser, Columbia, MO; Sarah Howser, Columbia, MO; and eight siblings, Sr. RoseMary Boessen, Twin Falls, ID; Robert (Donna) Boessen, Holts Summit; Henrietta (John) Gentges, St. Martins; Allen (Kathy) Boessen, Troy, MO; Joe (Ann) Boessen, Nashville, TN; Eugene (Cheryl) Boessen, Wardsville; Stanley (Carol) Boessen, Jefferson City; and Mary Lynn (David) Marr, Naples, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Howser; and a sister, Genarose Hohertz.
Visitation will be 10:30 to Noon Monday, December 3, 2018, at St. Martin Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Noon Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Porterfield officiating.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Vitae Foundation or to the Samaritan Center.
