Arthur Jacob Berhorst, 85, of Westphalia, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on April 4, 1919, in Westphalia, the son of Frank and Christine Kliethermes Berhorst. He was married on October 9, 1948, in Taos to Evelyn Mathilda Prenger who died on January 19, 2000. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Larry and Mary Lea Berhorst, Westphalia; Roger Butch and Robin Berhorst, Jefferson City; and Mark F. Berhorst, Freeburg; two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Robert Weber, Westphalia; Laverne and Terry Copeland, Vienna; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Hildegard and Joe Knaebel, Moberly, MO. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angela Berhorst; a daughter-in-law, Linda Berhorst; and three brothers, Vincent, Lawrence, and Leonard Berhorst. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Westphalia. A World War II veteran of the United States Merchant Marine, Mr. Berhorst was a carpenter and farmer in Osage County for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia; American Legion Post 544; Knights of Columbus Council 1171; and was a former captain with the Westphalia Volunteer Fire Department.
