Barbara Ann Seeney

Barbara Ann Seeney, 78, formerly of Jefferson City, was called home by the Lord on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in Oklahoma with her children James and Ann by her side.

Barbara Ann (Blanchard) Seeney was born to Willie Blanchard and Orzell Davis on October 18, 1944, in Memphis, TN.  Barbara was raised by her grandmother Lucy Shelton after losing her mother at an early age as well as her father and stepmother, Annie Gee Blanchard.  She had four siblings: Joseph Jackson, Gene Jackson, Frederic Jackson, and Cheryle Howard.

Barbara met her late husband, Charles Earl Seeney at Lincoln University (MO) and were later united in marriage on November 4, 1966, at Indianhead Road Chapel at Fort Benning Army Base in Fort Benning, GA.  Together they proudly raised three children, Philip Earl, James Michael, and Ann Michele.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings, her cousins, Kenneth Shelton and JW Shelton, one son (Philip Earl), and one nephew (Ramon Jackson).

Barbara received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1966 from Lincoln University (MO) and master’s degree in education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1994.  Barbara pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Alpha Iota chapter at Lincoln University (MO).

Barbara dedicated over 40 years to educating children and was a strong believer in early childhood education.  Much of her teaching career was at DeVaney Elementary School in Terre Haute, IN; and Washington Irving Elementary School in Edmond, OK.  In one of her first teaching positions, Barbara helped develop the first all-day kindergarten program in the state of Missouri.  She had an immeasurable impact on her students and colleagues alike.

Barbara was a very kind and generous person full of common-sense wisdom who was always ready to lend a helping hand.  She enjoyed people and was always ready with a story.  Barbara enriched the lives of everyone who met her and left an indelible impression on their lives.  We hear stories of how she changed the lives of so many just by being authentically her.

She is dearly loved and missed by her family, friends, and extended family.  She was a loving mother, wife, and friend.  There are no words to describe our loss or enough words to describe the life she lived.

She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her children James Michael (Kristi) of Oklahoma City, OK; Ann Michele of Chicago, IL; her brothers-in-law Kenneth Seeney (Wanda) of Holt Summit, MO and Charles Lawson, Rockville, MD; her grandchildren Bret and Margaret Ann; nieces Lisa and Charlotte; nephews Chris Jackson, Ali Jackson, and Omar Holloway; her cousin Margie, and a host of family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Burial will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
