Catherine Sophia Brendel, 73, of Westphalia where she resided her entire life, died Friday, September 13, 2008. She was born on May 1, 1935, in Westphalia, the daughter of Steve and Sophia (Schwartz) Borgmeyer. She was united in marriage on September 28, 1957, in Westphalia, to Theodore Daniel Brendel who survives at the home. A homemaker all of her life, Catherine helped her husband on their family farm. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and gardening. Her greatest passion was her eighteen grandchildren. Other survivors include: three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Richard Boessen, Westphalia; Mary and Dave Wibberg, Linn; Pat and Joe Wankum, Columbia; four sons and three daughters-in-law, William and Patti Brendel, Columbia, Il; Steve Brendel; Charlie and Barb Brendel; Harold and Sarah Brendel, all of Westphalia; and eighteen grandchildren, Jonathan, Clayton, Cecilia, Dalton, Katrina, and Claire Boessen; Melissa, Matthew, Mollie Jo, Joey, Kristine Wibberg; Andrew, Jessica, Jennifer, Eric Brendel; and Lauren, Abby, and Allie Wankum. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Brendel; and a granddaughter, Lydia Boessen. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. Philip M. Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
