In 2002, he was named Southwest Missouri Farmer of the Year for his leadership and support of Farm Bureau. Charles served as the treasurer of the Lawrence County Republican Central Committee for 18 years.
Charles was a Christian who was active in Youth for Christ (Campus Crusade) at an early age. He was a member at Round Grove Baptist Church near Miller for many years where he taught the senior adult Sunday School and helped start the video ministry for the church. After moving to Jefferson City he served as a deacon at Concord Baptist Church and enjoyed his favorite and most rewarding position of greeting at the door.

Kemp, I am so sorry to learn of your father’s passing. I didn’t know him, but he must have been a good man to have raised such a wonderful son. You were always one of my favorites at the patrol. We are never ready to say good-bye to a parent, but I’m sure he was ready for heaven.

Sad news, however Charlie is now with Jesus. For me Charlie was an example of a man living out his faith. I have a multitude of fond memories of time spent with Charlie & Barbara through the years. Praying for God’s peace for the family.
