Delma Rita Peggy Matthews,81, of Jefferson City, departed this life to be with the Lord, Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006, at Oak Tree Villas. She was born on Sept. 5, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of five children, to William Alexander and Helen May Hayes Ostenfeld. She was married on Jan.22, 1945, in Detroit, MI to Dr. John I. Matthews prior to his deployment overseas. He died January 16, 2001. She graduated from St. Benedicts High School, Detroit, MI and from St. Francis School of Nursing, Detroit, MI. Mrs. Matthews was employed as head nurse in charge of Detroits critical care unit. During her nearly 56 years of marriage, Peggy was a silent partner who daily encouraged her husband Jack to provide the very best medical care for his many patients in and around the Central Missouri area. Peggy was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since 1951; Cole County Medical Auxiliary; St. Marys Health Center Auxiliary; and a strong supporter of the community arts especially the Jefferson City Little Theatre and Helias play productions. She was a scout den mother, a Red Cross blood drive worker, and a volunteer for Meals On Wheels. She enjoyed Central Bank Classic Club travels, meeting with her friends at the Jefferson City Country Club, and spending time with her family. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, John William Matthews, Mission, KS; and James Michael and Jeanne Matthews, Lenexa, KS; one daughter- and son-in-law, Joyce and James Weber, Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Weber, Lexington, KY; and two grandsons, Brendan Patrick Matthews, St. Louis, MO; and Jason Matthew Weber, Jefferson City; two nephews and their wives, Bill and Anne Montgomery, Dallas, TX; and Tom and Cathy Montgomery, Dublin, OH; and other numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Burrell Ostenfeld and Harold Ostenfeld; and two sisters, Kay Harvey and Helen Stefanski. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Brendan Doyle officiating. Private entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10th, at Dulle Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center, 1310 East McCarty, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or a charity of the donors choice.
