Delphine Mary Luebbering

She was born May 8, 1932, in St. Thomas, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Herman and Margaret Ann (Kaiser) Luebbering. Delphine grew up on the family dairy farm in St. Thomas. She helped take care of the livestock, milking cows by hand, and driving cattle to and from pastures.
She was a 1950 graduate of St. Peter Catholic High School and received her Registered Nurses degree from St. Mary’s Nursing School in Kansas City.
Delphine worked for the Visiting Nursing Association of Kansas City, meeting the needs of many people in their homes including Harry and Bess Truman who she described as “True Democrats” as well as many underprivileged families and their children. She worked her way through the ranks eventually reaching the position of supervisor. She always had the needs of others as her focus.
She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She had a love for flowers, having many different varieties and colors surrounding the farmhouse and yard. Delphine loved to travel and took yearly vacations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. She enjoyed painting, walking in the woods, genealogy, and refinishing antiques. Delphine was the family videographer and photographer capturing treasured memories. She was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan and season ticket holder.
Survivors include her niece and nephews: Tom (Carol) Backes, Tim (Karen) Backes, Maureen Eggen; great nieces and nephews: Jim Backes, Elizabeth (Robbie) Belew, Emily Backes, Paul T. Backes, Michael Backes, Christopher Backes, Teresa Backes, Stephen (Maddie) Backes, Maria (Michael) Cosgrove, Rebekah Backes, Matthew Backes, Joseph (Sasha) Eggen, David Eggen, Lucas Eggen; and great-great nieces and nephews: Peter Cosgrove, Matthew Cosgrove, Joel Backes, Henry Backes, Jeanine Belew, Oscar Eggen, and Audrey Eggen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie Luebbering and Margie Backes; brother-in-law, Ben Backes; niece, Jeanine Backes; and a nephew-in-law, Jerold Eggen.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Leonard K. Mukiibi officiating.
Burial will be in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or to the Special Learning Center.
