Donna Jean Bronson, 85, passed from this life at her home in California, Missouri on Friday afternoon, July 30, 2021.

She was born on February 20, 1936, to Lloyd Wesley and Vera Thelma (Thorpe) Carr in Louisiana, Missouri.
She grew up there and attended school, graduating from Louisiana High School in1954.

On June 12, 1965, she was united in marriage with David Norman Bronson, and they lived in Jefferson City, where she was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was employed at United Telephone Company as a service center clerk, and was a member of their Community Relations Team, which was involved in local service projects.

Donna, a cancer survivor, was also a coordinator for the Candlelighters program, which provided support for children with cancer and their parents. After her retirement, she worked for the Missouri Baptist Convention where she worked in several different departments.

Donna was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and rarely missed watching their games on TV. She also enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, and visiting with her friends and family, whom she dearly loved. And as everyone who knew her can attest to, her favorite color was definitely purple.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Glenn Schaeffer, her husband, son Kerry Ray Scott, and stepdaughters Anna Mae (Pete) Peschang and Marcia Cleveland.

She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Bobby) Donnelly of, Fayetteville, Georgia; stepson Howard (Susie) Nelson of Jefferson City; grandchildren Donna Nicole Sines of Austin, Texas; Emily (Jessie) Kinchens of California; Leah Rachelle Jeffries of Maineville, Ohio; Kelly O'Halloran (Johnny) Angel of Granite City, Illinois; Glenn (Cindy) O'Halloran of Jamestown, Colorado; Jarrod (Cherie) Peschang of Copper Center, Alaska; Brandon (Jennifer) Nelson, Medford, Oregon; and Sarah (Joe) Walkenhorst of Wheatland, Missouri; 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, numerous cousins and friends, and her beloved chihuahua, Choco.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 6 with a memorial service following at 12:00 with the Rev. Melissa Hatfield officiating.

Interment will be at a later date at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.

Memorials are suggested to Susan G. Kommen.

  1. Although I’m not “blood related”, I’ve known Donna all my life! She’s been somewhat of a grandma to me – at least I’ve always thought of her that way. I adored her stylish ways <3 and how she carefully coordinated her wardrobe selections! She was a “fun” granny! I’ll miss her occasional FB comments on my wall! Love to all of you who were close to Donna. Especially Kelley, my niece.
