Dorothy Mae Kresl, 91, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Adams Street Place.
She was born January 14, 1932, in Taos, Missouri, the daughter of Edwin Bernard and Sophie Margaret (Kliethermes) Wolken.
Dorothy was a 1951 graduate of St. Peter High School.
She was united in marriage on June 30, 1956, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, to Frank Joseph Kresl who preceded her in death on December 28, 2001.
Dorothy was a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years assisting in the nursery department.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Being raised on a dairy farm, she had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and animals, especially dogs and cats. She had a natural green thumb and worked hours in her garden. Shopping to find the best deals, lunch outings with her family, playing bingo, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and feeding the birds were some of her favorite pastimes. Her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and listening to their stories.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Richard) Cook, Jefferson City; Deborah (Russ) King, St. Charles; five grandchildren, Joseph Cook, Katelyn (Tevin) Townson, William (Andrea) Cook, Christopher King, and Anthony King; one great-granddaughter, Lily Townson; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Wolken, Jefferson City; and Shirley Ortbals, Osage City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; a brother, Leonard Wolken; and an infant sister, Berniece Wolken.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Flatley celebrating.
Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation.
