Elam Doc May, Sr., 88, of Jefferson City, MO, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on May 12, 1916 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. He was married in Steele, MO to Georgia Mae Powell who died in 1987. He was married on May 26, 1984 in Jefferson City to Beatrice Harris who survives at the home. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. May was a truck driver for many years and retired in 1984 from the State of Missouri as a custodian. He was a member of One in Christ Church. Other survivors include ten sons, Elam May, Caruthersville; George May, South Bend, IN; Willie Davis, Curtis Edwards, and Jeffrey Edwards, all of Jefferson City; Taurus May and Bobby Wayne May, both of Chicago; Willie James Edwards, Columbia; James Edwards, Jr., Indianola, MS; and Larry Edwards, Atlanta, GA; seven daughters, Sadie Turner, Caruthersville, MO; Elizabeth Ann May, Chicago; Sherry Ann Patrick, Pine Bluff, AR; Mary Ann Stapleton, Deloris Edwards, and Bessie Nell Edwards, all of Jefferson City; and Monica Shennelle Ray, Independence, MO; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene May, Hernando, MS; and his mother-in-law, Mary Harris, Steele, MO. He was preceded in death by one son, Clyde May, Sr.; one daughter, Charlotte Edwards; three grandsons, Andre Davis; James Edwards, III; and Anthony May; and two brothers, John Rollins and Cazzy May. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at One in Christ Church, 900 Jefferson Street, Jefferson City. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, April 30th, at the church.
