Elizabeth Louise “Betty Lou” Heckman, 84, of Westphalia returned to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

She was born November 23, 1940, in Koeltztown, Missouri to the late Ed and Bernadine (Wieberg) Schroeder.  Her family moved to a farm in Babbtown (near Meta) when she was two years old.

She attended St. Cecilia Grade School at Meta and graduated from Fatima High School in 1958.

She was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Heckman on October 7, 1961, at the St. Cecilia Church in Meta.  They lived in Fort Knox, Kentucky where Tony was stationed until August 1962.  They bought a small farm in Koeltztown, Missouri and lived there for five years.  Then they bought a house in Westphalia, Missouri where Tony still lives.

Betty Lou was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia and a proud member of the Thursday night rosary group.  Betty Lou was a regular volunteer at the church and school where their children attended using her many gifts and talents for the benefit of all.  She stayed home while raising her children but later worked at the Daniel Boone Library (now Missouri River Regional Library).  Later, she worked at Fatima as the “lunch lady” and then with special needs children until she retired in 2002.  She truly enjoyed helping children with special needs.  They always held a special place in her heart.  She loved and adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She never turned down the opportunity to spend time with them.

Survivors include her husband, Tony; three children, Vickie Lueckenotte, Jefferson City; Mark (Sandy) Heckman, Wardsville; and Keith (Dawn) Heckman, Columbia ; five grandchildren, Jessica (Tony) Krenning, Centertown; Sabrina (Clayton) Toebben, Wardsville; Jonathan (Brittany) Lueckenotte, Portland, Missouri; Brett (Fairlight) Heckman; and Balin Lueckenotte, Jefferson City; ten great-grandchildren, Layla, Lucy, and Anthony Krenning; Zoey, Qynn, and Mylo Toebben; Layne, Maverick, and Makenna Lueckenotte; and Xena Heckman;  two brothers, Edwin, Jr. (Bernice) Schroeder; and  Charles (Doris) Schroeder, both of Bapptown; three in-laws, Hermina (Gilbert) Strope, St. Thomas; Leander (Ceil) Heckman, Wardsville; JoAnn (Bud) Schwartz, Argyle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Dennis Lueckenotte, two brothers, LeRoy Wieberg and Larry Schroeder who died in infancy, one sister-in-law, Jeri Schroeder, and one brother-in-law and his wife, Alex and JoAnne Heckman.
