Elmer John Stegeman, 80, of St. Martins, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on May 6, 1926, in Elston, MO, the son of Herbert Henry and Caroline Ann Moeller Stegeman. He was married on Sept. 5, 1953, in St. Martins, to Mary Louise Schenewerk who survives at the home. Mr. Stegeman was employed for fourteen years with International Shoe Factory; two years with Thoennen Construction, Co.; ten years as a self-employed contractor; and thirteen years with the Eagles Club No. 2693. He owned and operated Cheyenne Club in Apache Flats for four years. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church; American Legion Post 5; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693. Other survivors include two sons, Glenn E. Stegeman and his friend, Carla Wynne, McGirk, MO; and Mitchell R. and Sherry Stegeman, Jefferson City; four daughters and their husbands, Laurel H. and Russell Crossland, Mexico, MO; Lisa A. and Alan Crossland, Jefferson City; Michelle R. and James McAllister, Hermiston, OR; and Stacy L. Stegeman and her friend, Martin Cordwell, Jefferson City; eighteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Leroy and Betty Stegeman, Meta, MO; Paul Stegeman, Jefferson City; Edwin and Pauline Stegeman, Wardsville; Marvin and Becky Stegeman, Jefferson City; and Robert and Jeanie Stegeman, Jefferson City; and four sisters and four brothers-in-law, Irene and James Adrian, Jefferson City; Florence Toebben, Vienna, MO; Mary Lou and Fred Taggart, Jefferson City; Anna Mae and James Berendzen, Centertown; and Leroy Welch, California, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Catherine Welch. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 noon Monday, April 16, 2007, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, April 15th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested St. Martin Catholic Church, 7148 St. Martins Ave., Jefferson City, MO 65109.
