Elmer Leo Boessen, 68, of Westphalia and Jefferson City, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Jefferson City. He was born on May 25, 1939, in Westphalia, MO, the son of August Herman and Agnes Mengwasser Boessen. He was a 1957 graduate of Fatima High School where he was active in Future Farmers of America and was a member of the basketball team. He was a twenty-year veteran of the United States Army Reserves. Mr. Boessen was employed with the State of Missouri for forty-six years, and would have retired in November as a computer programming specialist with the Missouri Dept. of Mental Health where he had many friends. He farmed several farms in Osage County, and also owned Senate Court Apartments and Bella Vista Apartments in Jefferson City. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, and was a hard-working, kind-hearted person who loved animals and agriculture. Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Frances M. and Paul Laux, Jefferson City; and Mary and Herman Stratman, Sedalia, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Judy Derks. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Joseph Boessen; one brother, August Boessen, Jr.; an infant sister, Auralia Boessen; and two sisters, Hildagard Boessen and Agnes Schulte. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. Philip M. Kane officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Westphalia. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, POB 116, Westphalia, MO 65085.
