Elsie Irene Taylor, 101, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on January 11, 1907, in Steeleville, MO, the daughter of James Escoe and Emma Lee Bacon Spurgeon. She was united in marriage on December 13, 1923, in Belle, MO, to Samuel Lee Taylor. He preceded her in death on February 29, 1974. Mrs. Taylor worked as a floor manager for H.S. Kress and Co. Dept. Store for twenty years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Elsie loved to garden, sew, cook, and baby-sit for children. Survivors include: three daughters and one son-in-law, Norma Wissmann, Linn; Shirley Clark, Granite City, IL; Ann and Ralph Higgins, Pacific, MO; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewayne and Dolores Taylor, Porterville, CA; Frank and Margaret Taylor, New Bloomfield; 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Marceline Shang and Lucille Albertson; one son, Phillip Taylor; two sisters; three brothers; and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Lewis Curtis officiating. Private burial will be in Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
