Evelyn Marie Higgins, 83, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Golden Living Center. She was born on June 8, 1926, in Taos, Mo, the daughter of Frank and Lidvina Rackers Henke. She was united in marriage on April 1, 1946, in Jefferson City, to Robert Hershal Higgins who preceded her in death on July 18, 1995. Mrs. Higgins was a machine operator with McGraw Edison for twenty years and later with Scholastic for five years. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, VFW, and American Legion. Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debbie Higgins, Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Robin Evans; Jeffrey Higgins; Bradley Higgins; Lance Higgins; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Lammers, Jefferson City; Alberta Ratliff, Columbia, Mo; two brothers, Bernard Henke, Marshall, Mo; and Fred Henke, Taos, Mo; and a special friend, Al Bochat, Jefferson City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Mary Ann Lammers. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. David J. Maher officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum.
