Everett Eugene Winters, 77, of Olean, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, at St. Lukes’s Hospital, Kansas City.
Everett was born August 25, 1941, in Illinois, the son of Roy and Margaret (Mohr) Winters. The family moved to Missouri, where Everett spent most of his childhood days on a farm near Eolia, MO.
He attended Clopton High School, Clarksville, MO.
Everett served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966.
He was united in marriage to Mari Ann York of Eolia, MO, on March 18, 1967.
In 1971, Everett and Mari Ann moved to a farm near Olean, MO, where he continued to live until his death. In 1975, Everett launched Winters Excavating and for the next 35 years enjoyed serving farmers and business owners, always accompanied by his son Eddie. He took pride in his work and his service to others and he greatly appreciated his customers, many of whom became cherished friends.
Always a farmer at heart and lover of horses, after his retirement and throughout his physical difficulties, he continued to garden, bale hay, and care for the livestock (made possible by the capable assistance of grandsons and spontaneous help from neighbors).
Everett’s greatest claim to fame was that of being a devoted husband, loving father, and an exceptional grandfather. He cherished his grandchildren. He loved to hear them laugh, tell them stories, and listen to their adventures.
On December 5, 2007, at the age of 66, Everett made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, and on January 6, 2008, had the special honor of being baptized alongside two of his young grandsons. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Russellville. He recognized that although he had always attempted to live a “good” life, it was insufficient without the joy of following Jesus and having a personal relationship with God. God granted him comfort and peace during difficult and unanticipated sad times. As each health issue arose, he faced it confidently, relying not only on his prayers but also those of others on his behalf. Because of those prayers, he experienced God’s grace and mercy, as God granted him a little more time with family and friends on earth. When Everett realized God was calling him home, he went easily and peacefully relying on God’s promise of eternal life in the presence of the Lord and reunion with family and friends in heaven.
Survivors include his wife, Mari Ann Winters, Olean; a daughter, Amy (Aaron) Steenbergen, Olean; daughter-in-law, Wendy Winters, Lake Ozark; six grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, and Shelby Winters, and Caleb, Corey, and Allie Steenbergen; two sisters, Imogene Lomelino and Doris (DeWitt) Vaughn of Middletown, MO, a sister-in-law, Pat York, Louisiana; numerous nephews and nieces, and very dear cousins.
He was preceded in death by his business partner, best friend, and beloved son, Eddie Winters; his infant son, Timothy; his parents; his sister-in-law, Joyce Wilfong; and brothers-in-law, Harold Lomelino, John Mason York, and William (Bill) Wilfong.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2019, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Russellville.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Russellville with Bro. Alan Earls officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Spring Garden Cemetery.
Memorial are suggested to Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund.

So sorry for your loss, Evvert was such a nice man. We used to ride our horses by the house and if he saw us he was there to say hi and visit. He even bought a young horse from me at the auction. I knew he was going to a good home. May he Rest In Peace and hold your memories close to your heart.
Dear Mari Ann and Family, Please accept my prayers and heartfelt sympathies. I am absolutely certain that there is a flood prayers going out. I did not know Mr. Winters well, but I opine that he was a genius for taking Mari Ann as his wife. People like Mari Ann are very difficult to find. I was the youngster on the Commission, and she guided me for all of those six years in the City of Jefferson. I am proud to say that Mari Ann is my friend and that by God’s Grace, and the thoughts and prayers from so many mortals, she will find the strength and the will to find peace in this difficult time.
