Florence Elaine Young (nee Gile) was born July 9, 1933, in Scandia, Kansas. She died on January 19, 2025, at Stonebridge Adams Street. She was 91.
Florence was an avid reader of history, loved music, crocheted for the Afghans for Angels organization and was a former member of Capital Toastmasters Club. She had a passion for writing and published two eBooks: “They are Not The Enemy” and “Bittersweet.”
Florence graduated in 1951 from Grandview High School, Grandview, WA. She received her Doctor of Education degree from La Sierra University, Riverside, CA in 1983. She had an expansive career with the Seventh-day Adventist Church at its various universities where she served as Dean of Women.
Daughter of John Sherman Gile and Vuta Lotus Thorpe. All her siblings preceded her in death: Melvin Hart (Cleo nee Dodge), John A. Gile (Sarah nee Grant) and (Helen nee Teller), Edla (Walter Luebke), Harold (Myrtle nee Cook) and Doris (Harold Hansen). She was loved and adored by many nieces and nephews.
Married to John B. Stuckey and Gerald L. Young. Both preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son Edwin Stuckey and wife, Cheryl (nee Burke) and granddaughter Jennifer Stuckey. Daughter Beth Mitnick (nee Stuckey) (late husband Paul) and life partner, Bill (Daniels).
Graveside services and interment were held on January 30, 2025, at Riverview Cemetery and were arranged by Trimble Funeral Homes.
The family requests that donations be made to Stonebridge Adams Street, 1024 Adams Street Jefferson City, MO 65101. Checks made payable to “Adams Street Activity Fund.”

Florence was such a sweet lady, she lived at Chapel Hill II where I also live. She was always pleasant and had a
smile on her face. My son Ryan, would visit with her when he came to visit. He enjoyed her knowledge of different things. She will be remembered fondly.
