George Gerald Poettgen, 64, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 20, 1940, in Jefferson City, the son of John Henry and Geraldine Ann Castrop Poettgen. He was married on Sept. 30, 1967, in Florissant, MO, to Felicia Marie Wichlenski who survives at the home. Mr. Poettgen was a 1958 graduate of Fatima High School, Westphalia, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1962. He was employed in earlier years with Goodyear Tire Corporation and later with McDonnell-Douglas Corporation. He was a former owner of Poettgen Brothers Garage, Freeburg, and founded Poettgen Automotive in Jefferson City in 1978. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Julie M. and Oday Lavergne, Alexandria, Louisiana; two sons, Gregory G. Poettgen, Grand Junction, Colorado; and Daniel J. Poettgen, Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Felice Lavergne, Sylvie Lavergne, and Oday John Lavergne, III; and two brothers and their wives, Joseph and Meg Poettgen, and Steven and Annette Poettgen, all of Freeburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick G. Dolan officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Freeburg. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund, 1206 E.
