Henry Joseph Jay Wallau, 90, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at his residence. He was born on Aug. 3, 1918 in Jefferson City, the son of Henry Herman and Eda Magdelan Ruprecht Wallau. He was united in marriage on June 14, 1952, in Jefferson City, to Mildred Ann Rost who died June 24, 1989. Mr. Wallau served with the United States Army during World War II. He was co-owner of Wallau & Schnieders and later owned Jefferson City Sand Company. He was a member of Cathedral of St. Joseph; Knights of Columbus; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2693; and an avid bridge player. Survivors include one son, John Frederick Wallau, Jefferson City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Helen and Brian Hurley, Boston, MA; Anne Louise and Douglas Bozarth, St. Louis; six grandchildren, Michael Wallau, Julie Marie Wallau, Thomas Hurley, Elizabeth Hurley, Stephen Bozarth, and Michael Bozarth; and one great-grandson, Zachary Jay Wallau. He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, James Henry Wallau; one grandson, John Leonard Wallau; and three brothers, Leonard Wallau, Harold Wallau, and Orville Wallau. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Cathedral of St. Joseph. Entombment with full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Helias Foundation, 1305 Swifts Hwy.
