Henry "Hank" Castrop
February 10, 1934 ~ June 9, 2022
He was born February 10, 1934 in Westphalia to the late George and Mamie (Schmitz) Castrop. Hank grew up in Westphalia and was a 1952 graduate of Westphalia High School. On October 5, 1963 he married Betty Loethen at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas. After 25 years of service, Hank retired from N.H. Scheppers Distributing where he had worked as transport driver and salesman.
Hank was a devout Catholic. He took comfort in praying the Rosary every day and would volunteer in praying at the Adoration Chapel at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he was a member. He was a kind, gentle soul who enjoyed helping family and friends. One of Hank’s gifts was lifting the spirits of those he knew and even those he didn’t know living in area nursing homes. Whether it was countless days tending to his vegetable garden, hunting deer, fishing or tinkering around the family farm, Hank loved being outdoors. You could also find him spending time playing cards and games with family and friends. Hank and Betty always looked forward to their yearly winter vacations to California.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Wardsville, two daughters, Lynn (Dean) Jaramillo of Aliso Viejo, CA, Lora McCutchen of University City, MO, one granddaughter, Reagan McCutchen of New York City, NY, one brother, Edward (Barbara) Castrop of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Stratman and Mary Castrop and three brothers, Martin, Alfred and Elmer Castrop.
Visitation will be Monday, June 13, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. David Cox officiating. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia.
