Herbert Calvin Cab Logan, 81, of Jefferson City, MO, died Thursday, November 29, 2007, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on Aug. 31, 1926, in Jefferson City, the son of Benjamin Harrison and Eula Oliver Logan. He was married on July 1, 1944, in Jefferson City to Josie Beatrice Chism who died on May 13, 2001. To this union was born Cassandra Arvella Logan Ivery who preceded them in death in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Logan began his employment with the former Exchange Bank as a custodian in 1947. After twenty-one years, he was given the job of operating a proof machine that tallied the deposits for accuracy. From there he became a teller in the banks lobby, and later was promoted to a desk job to open new accounts. He served as assistant cashier and eventually worked with the banks credit card program. He concluded his career as Vice President of Exchange Bank at the Dunklin Street branch where he retired in 1989. Cab Logan was the first Black man selected to play with the Jefferson City Redbirds amateur traveling baseball team. For many years he enjoyed bowling on leagues around the city and at the time of his death, was bowling with the Arris Pizza team on Thursday nights. Herbert was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees for many years. Survivors include one brother, Harrison Overton (Laurie) Logan, St. Louis; two sisters-in-law, Willa Burton, St. Louis; and LaVerne Logan, Washington, D.C.; a cousin, Mary V. Carwell, St. Louis; nieces, Joyce (Don) Webb, Jefferson City; Sheila Logan, Jefferson City; Donna Sanders, Carla (Eric) Roane, Rebecca Gordon, Kathy Gordon Johnson; all of Washington D.C.; Sheila Jean Smith, Atlanta, Ga.; and Candace Brooks, Newport News, Va.; nephew, Robert Kenneth, Jr. (Hannah) Logan, Seaford, Va.; Darell (Theresa) Gordon, Jeffery Gordon, both of Washington D.C.; many grandnieces and grandnephews, including, Dawn Webb (Martin) Crockett, Jefferson City; Robert Anthony Logan, Bowie, Md.; and Michael Webb, McLean, Va.; and several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, including, Brittany Crockett and Sydney Crockett, both of Jefferson City; and Anthony Logan, Ft. Polk, La. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter; sister, Colette Gordon; and brothers, Leon Dixon Logan and Robert Kenneth Logan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Cornell C. Sudduth, Sr., officiating. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3rd, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
