Herbert Francis Mahan, 82, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia. He was born on July 12, 1926, in Jefferson City, the son of Fount William and Christine Helen Hoelscher Mahan, both deceased. He was married on June 13, 1953, in Cedar City, Mo., to Juanitta Marie Todd who died on June 10, 2002. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Mahan retired in 1988 from the maintenance department of the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Dept. where he worked for thirty-one years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include five daughters and one son-in-law, Connie Prelow; Kathy Buck; Kathie and David Weed; Christina Mahan; and Lennie Mahan, all of Jefferson City; six sons and two daughters-in-law, David Mahan; Roger and Penny Mahan; Ricky Mahan; Herbert Gene Mahan; Billy and Mary Mahan; and Randall Mahan, all of Jefferson City; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant great-grandchildren; five brothers, Clem, August, Cletus, Fountie, and William Mahan; and three sisters, Thressia Mahan, Mildred Banstan, and Martha Stultz. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Longview Cemetery with the Rev. Doyle Sager officiating, followed by Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Friday at the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Herbert Mahan Memorial Fund. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
