HERBERT WILLIAM RACKERS
February 23, 1927 ~ November 24, 2009
He was born on Feb. 23, 1927, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Frank H. and Sophia J. Talken Rackers. He was married on May 7, 1949, in Jefferson City to Emma Catherine Brendel who survives at the home. Mr. Rackers received his education at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Taos. He retired on Aug. 31, 1987, from the Missouri Dept. of Corrections, Algoa Intermediate Reformatory, where he had been employed for thirty years. He had also worked for International Shoe Company and played country music with the C&O Boys. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos.
Other survivors include two daughters, Diane Johnson, Springfield, Mo.; and Darlene (Robert) Pesek, Overland Park, Kans.; six grandchildren, John Pesek, Emily Pesek, Mark Pesek, Andrew Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, and Elizabeth Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Reece, and Rylan Pesek. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Alvin Rackers; and one sister, Virginia Sandbothe.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Taos. Visitation will be 12 Noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, 7307 Route M, Jefferson City, MO 65101-9507.
