James H. Steen
June 15, 1929 ~ January 6, 2021
James H. Steen, 91, of Holts Summit, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Summit Villa in Holts Summit.
He was born June 15, 1929, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of the late Matthew Warren and Fannie Myrtle (Martin) Steen. Jim was the last member of the 12 siblings.
He was united in marriage on August 28, 1945, in Lancaster, Missouri, to Juanita June Munn who survives.
Jim was a terminal manager for Orscheln Truck Line for 30 years. He was a pilot and provided local flying for area businesses and was a row crop and cattle farmer.
In 1982, after retirement, he started his own salvage business, Cole County Iron & Metal. For him, it was a challenge to see how much iron he could cut up in a day and was enjoyable because of the many friendships made along the way. Jim ran business on a handshake and a fair deal. Jim loved the outdoors and had a tremendous work ethic.
He also enjoyed RV traveling and bluegrass music festivals with June, who he affectionately referred to as “my bride”, by his side.
Jim was a member of Dry Fork Baptist Church in New Bloomfield.
Survivors include his wife of 75 years, June Steen, Holts Summit; two sons, Jimmie Dale Steen, Holts Summit; Matthew Wayne (Desiree) Steen, Holts Summit; and four grandchildren, Stacy Steen, Holts Summit; Sara Steen, Jefferson City; Matthew W. Steen (David Lowery), Gretna, Louisiana; and Kim Steen, Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and eleven siblings, Virgie Ellen, Emery Matthew, Cecil Paul, Marceline Mae, Vivian Irene, Colleen Alfereto, Warren Paul, Mark Wayne, Marvin Keith, Eva Maxine, and William Mitchel.
Private family services will be held at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with burial in the Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center.
Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City is in charge of the arrangements.

My first time to “slip the surly bonds of earth” was with my Uncle Jim when I was just a kid as together we “danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.” That’s pretty much how he lived life, with joy and laughter, his loving bride, Juanita, by his side. While grieving in his passing, I rejoice in the promises of God and know though he is gone from us, he has entered the gates of heaven and seen the face of God. Thanks for precious memories, Uncle Jimmy!
Sorry to hear of Uncle Jimmy’s passing. I recall fondly how my mom , Peggy (Steen) Lockett, smiled when Her brother called to check on her. Like my siblings and probably my cousins I remember shivering with fear and delight as Uncle Jimmy gave me my first airplane ride. Uncle Jim, you were respected and loved by many. Rest In Peace, your nephew, Mike
