James LeRoy “Jim” Winkelman, 86, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Jefferson City Manor.

He was born February 3, 1938, in Brinktown, Missouri, the son of Adolph Stephen and Hilda Marie (Brune) Winkelman.

He was united in marriage on April 12, 1969, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Folk, Missouri to JoAnn Agnes Van Loo who survives at their home.

Jim served in the United States Army Reserves from 1959-1964 at Ft. Leonard Wood.

Jim worked in concrete and residential construction with Jim Stegeman Construction Company and Ray Roling & Son Construction Company.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a 3rd degree member of the Argyle Knights of Columbus Council 2047. Jim enjoyed woodworking, “fixing things”, gardening, fishing, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Winkelman, Jefferson City; two sons, Patrick (Shannon) Winkelman, Martinsburg, WV; Thomas Winkelman (Natalie), Loami, IL; eight grandchildren, Amber (Trevor) Bradley, Austin (Romy) Winkelman, Alyssa Winkelman, Blaine (Matt) South, Landon Winkelman, Jonathon Winkelman, Lillian Winkelman, Cecelia Winkelman; one great-granddaughter, Rylee Bradley; four siblings, Edmund (Anna Marie) Winkelman, New Bloomfield; Gerald (Patrice) Winkelman, Littleton, CO; Anna Mae (Lawrence) Redel, Jefferson City; Carolyn (Lou) Freidinger, Jefferson City; and a sister-in-law, Betty Winkelman, Jefferson City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond Winkelman.

Visitation will be 3:30-6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Flatley officiating.

Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Dream Team.

  1. Jim was one of the Dream team members that I was able to work with at IC. What a great guy. Prayers to the family

  2. Though it’s been many years since I’ve seen Jim, I have many memories of working with him. Sending prayers for peace and comfort to all.

  3. On several occasions, I got to work alongside Jim on Tom’s house and shed. Jim was a true craftsman and an absolute joy to work with!! We definitely lost one of the good ones with Jim’s passing. On behalf of my entire family, I want to offer our sincerest condolences to the Winkelman family.
