James “Dale” Schrimpf, 88, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 20, 1935, in Jefferson City, the son of Hugo P. and Mary Francis (Finnell) Schrimpf.

Dale was a graduate of St. Peter High School, class of 1954.

He served his country in the United States Army.

Dale was united in marriage to Helen Marie Schwartze, the love of his life, on April 14, 1956, in Vienna. They were married for 67 happy years. She survives at their home.

He worked for the State of Missouri, Division of Probation and Parole, and retired after more than 40 years of service. Dale also owned and operated Jim’s Custodial Service for over 30 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Dale’s hobbies included vintage cars, card games, especially Canasta and Pinochle, and board games like Checkers and Rummikub. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He never knew a stranger and was quite a storyteller, with stories growing bigger with each telling.

Survivors include nine children, Diann Schrimpf, Jefferson City; Joyce (Steve) Swiatecki, Columbus OH; Sharon (Phil) Lock, Jefferson City; Gloria (Paul) Reinsch, Jefferson City; Gerry Stephenson, Lee’s Summit; Georgia (Tim) Hagenhoff, Wardsville; Darrell (Laura) Schrimpf, Jefferson City; Judy (Mike) Lage, Jefferson City; Larry (Sandy) Schrimpf, Gilbert AZ; seventeen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Cline, Jefferson City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Schrimpf; and a granddaughter, Georgia Hagenhoff.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City, Missouri, with a rosary service at 11:30 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow the rosary at 12:00 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2023, with the Rev. Matthew J. Flatley officiating.

Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Catholic Mausoleum.

Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to Immaculate Conception Catholic School.

  4. I’m sorry for my late response but I just wanted to share how much I loved hearing my Uncle Dale could laugh and even though I didn’t understand the reason for his laughter as a kid it ALWAYS made me smile. Whenever I think of a contagious laugh I think of Uncle Dale 1st 🥇
