James William Jim Henke, 46, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on June 22, 1962, in Jefferson City, the son of Frederick Frank and Mary Jane Grothoff Henke. His parents survive in Taos. Jim was a 1981 graduate of Blair Oaks High School and a graduate of Linn State Technical College. Jim served with the United States Army as Specialist E4 receiving Good Conduct Award, Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Metal, and the Marksmanship Qualification Badge. He was employed with Modine for 17 years as a welder. Jim had a passion for life. He enjoyed golfing, going to a casino, and physical fitness. He prided himself in being physically fit and ready to challenge any of his brothers and nephews. Jim tried his hand at Geocaching. He loved to dance to any kind of music. He was known for his bear hugs. Jim especially enjoyed spending time with his many nieces, nephews, and family. His vacations were spent traveling throughout the U.S. and one trip to the Ukraine. Other survivors include: three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Tom LeComte, Taos; Joann and Howard Pointer, Taos; Valerie and Wes Lang, Wentzville; five brothers and their spouses, Dan and Diane Henke, Rolla; Tom and Kathy Henke, Taos; Greg and Laura Henke, Taos; Keith and Mary Jo Henke, Taos; Kevin Henke, Jefferson City; God Father to Amanda Henke, Taos; and proud uncle to 18 nieces and nephews and three great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Henke and Mary Ann Henke. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. J. David Maher officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday at the church with a prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 7319 Rt.
