Jean Marie Barton

September 8, 1967 ~ July 17, 2022
Jean Marie Barton, 54, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at her home in Kansas City, MO.
Jean was born September 8, 1967 in St. Louis to the late Severo and Rosedare (Hensley) Vitela. On December 3, 1988, Jean married Kenneth Barton in St. Louis. Together, they raised three children--Joseph, Michael, and Ashley. With Ken’s job requiring the young family to relocate to several states, Jean happily took on the role of homemaker. She took great pride in providing for her family, making sure any house felt like home. Throughout life, Jean had a passion for taking care of children. At every church the family would join, Jean could be counted on as an enthusiastic volunteer, sharing her time, talents, and love. When she became “Maw Maw”, Jean treasured the times she spent babysitting, playing games, or Facetiming grandchildren. On Sunday afternoons, you could often find Jean cheering for her favorite football team, the Chiefs.
Survivors include her sons--Joseph (Kristen) Barton of Kansas City; Michael (Lindsay) of Troy; five grandchildren-- Zoey, Xavier, Hayden, Alexis, and Kenneth; two sisters--Mary (Dennis) Simpson of Jefferson City and Nancy (Greg) Stumpf of Pacific; four brothers--Edward (Kathy) Vitela of Jefferson City, Tony (Bonnie) Vitela of St. Louis, Gerald Vitela of Warrensburg, and George (Laura) Vitela of Ballwin, along with many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her daughter Ashley, and siblings Butch, LeRoy, Matthew, Mark, Tricia, and Robert.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Trimble Funeral Homes, 3210 North Ten Mile Dr. in Jefferson City, MO.
