Joan Sophia Stegeman, 84, of Folk passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Westphalia Hills surrounded by her family.

She was born November 13, 1939 in Rich Fountain to the late Henry and Anna (Bauer) Grellner.  After graduating from Fatima High School in 1957, Joan began working for Three Rivers Electric.  On May 15, 1965, Joan married Celsus Stegeman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain.  They farmed in Folk while raising their sons, Randy and Danny.

Joan was the consummate homemaker.  With home-cooked meals, fresh produce from her garden and a spotless home, Joan took great pride in taking care of Celsus and her boys.  Whether it was bottle feeding calves, working her vegetable and flower gardens, cleaning homes or volunteering at church, Joan was a hard-working woman.  In her earlier years, Joan enjoyed bowling and baking her famous chocolate chip cookies.  She was a very religious person taking solace in praying the Rosary every day.  Joan was a devout member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and for years sang in the church choir.

Survivors include her two sons, Randy (Cindy) of Folk, Danny (Kris) of Folk, four grandchildren, Ashley Zimmer, Eric, Gina and Dani Stegeman, five siblings, Ed Grellner of Freeburg, Helen Rudruff of Rich Fountain, Chris Fick of Rich Fountain, Betty Stegeman of St. Elizabeth, Cathy (Harry) Bernskoetter of Taos and sister-in-law, Elsie Grellner of Rich Fountain.  Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Celsus, four brothers, Joe (Mable) Grellner, Tom Grellner, Bill Grellner, her twin infant Paul Grellner and two sisters, infant Margaret Grellner and Ann (Gus) Wieberg.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Trimble Funeral Homes-Westphalia.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Folk.  Rev. Dylan Schrader will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Cemetery or the charity of your choice.
