John Joseph Skain, 91, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Villa Marie Skilled Care Center. He was born on Aug. 1, 1914 in Jefferson City, the son of John Henry and Caroline Zimmerman Skain. He was married on June 17, 1950 in Jefferson City to Georgia Roberta Huston who died on March 14, 2002. A 1932 graduate of Jefferson City High School, Mr. Skain was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served as Vice-president and Secretary of Central Bank from 1934 to 1977. Following retirement, he owned Skain Real Estate Appraisal Services from 1977 to 1987. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Holy Name Society; Veterans of Foreign Wars; American Legion; Disabled American Veterans; Merry Mix Dance Club; and Hawthorn Garden Club. He was a Past Grand Knight and Life Member of the Knights of Columbus; a Life Member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks; and past president of Jefferson City Host Lions Club. He was a founding member of the Toastmasters Club which recently named their weekly traveling trophy in his honor. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Patricia Skain, Jefferson City; and John C. Skain, Germantown, IL; three grandchildren, Patrick Skain; Christopher Skain; and Matthew Skain; and two sisters, Edna Wachter, Jefferson City; and Margaret Machens, Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia A. Skain; and one brother, Dr. Richard Skain; and three sisters, Mary Skain; Helen Skain; and Juliet Sturm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Reverend Patrick G. Dolan officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, March 13th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Helias Foundation, POB 694, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0694; Carmelite Monastery, 2201 W.
