Joseph Grothoff

Joseph Otto Grothoff, 48, of Omaha, NE passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Bergen Mercy Hospital, Omaha.
Joe was born August 22, 1973 in Jefferson City to the late Anna (Giesing) Grothoff and Steven Grothoff of Jefferson City.
In 1991, he received his high school diploma from St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Hannibal. Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1993. He proudly served his country for four years and was a member of the Marine Corps League, Samuel F. Gearhart Detachment.
On March 28, 2009 Joe married Stacy Starke at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Jefferson City.
While working for Scholastic, Inc. Joe took college classes from Columbia College, graduating with 2 Bachelor degrees in 2014. In 2018, Joe and Stacy moved to Omaha NE seeking advancement opportunities within Dillons/Kroger. Joe worked for Gerbes store #118 in Jefferson City, MO and transferred to Bakers store #319 in Omaha. He was currently a fuel center clerk at Bakers store #320 in Omaha, NE.
Joe was a devout Chiefs and Cardinals fan and always kept up with Missouri sports. Nothing would make Joe happier than when he was with family….especially during the holidays. He will be remembered for his laughter, wit and the pride he had for his country.
Survivors include his wife, Stacy and son Dakota of Omaha, father, Steven of Jefferson City, his sister, Becky (Steve) Schaefer of Jefferson City, mother and father-in-law, Robert and Lawana Starke of Holts Summit, brother-in-law Robbie (Kelley) Starke of Oklahoma, sister-in-law, Ashley (Brandon) Wilde of St. Elizabeth and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna, sister, Stephanie Ann and his grandparents.
Visitation will be Friday, August 5, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Trimble Funeral Homes, 3210 N. Ten Mile Dr., Jefferson City. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Jefferson City. Father Donald Antweiler will officiate. Burial services with military honors will be conducted at Resurrection Cemetery.

Joey, man I am so sorry you left this world so soon. Thank you for being a Patriot who served with pride and honor — a U.S. Marine! Thanks for the signs you sent me as I prayed for you upon learning you’d passed. Right away I saw a “IGY6” sign followed instantly by the Globe & Anchor. To Joe’s family: he’s alright. He’s up there in a better place. But I know this hurts. Please accept my condolences on your loss. Rest in Peace!

Joe I’m going to miss the time we had together as bother n laws you and I always had to give each other heck be teasing and picking on each other but that was our brotherly love. I look back at the trip when you guys came out to Colorado to visit us and went to pike peak that was a blast in the past. Now thinking back where did all the time go. Blink an eye and it’s gone kids grow up get married have there kids. Just not enough time to spend with family. We was just seating down talking about all the good time we had together at Tim and Brianna wedding and how fast time flys bye. Now your in heaven looking over us hope some day we will meet up again so you can give more crap. I’ll miss you bother
Pat and I are so sorry to hear of your son’s passing! Pat is dealing with a bad foot ulcer since getting Covid last year and his memory is bad!

We are so sorry for Joe’s passing. He was a big part of so many people’s lives. A larger-than-life man. I am honored to have all the wonderful memories of time together with him & my family. We love you all.
