Juliana Marie (Castrop) Luetkemeyer of Jefferson City, formerly of Freeburg, died on Dec. 6, 2019, two days before her 95th birthday.

She was born on Dec. 8, 1924, in Freeburg, a daughter of George and Celestine (Meyer) Castrop.

After graduating from Holy Family School and Freeburg High School, she worked for Alphonse Schwartze at the Maries Valley Hatchery in Westphalia and then briefly for the State of Missouri.

On June 10, 1950, in Holy Family Church in Freeburg, she was married to Francis de Sales Henry Luetkemeyer, who preceded her in death.

She was a lifelong Catholic and member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, serving on the parish council, the social committee and the quilting club, singing in the choir and volunteering for many years for funeral luncheons. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Freeburg, serving a term as secretary.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed walking and quilting. She had an ear for a wide assortment of music, especially Elvis Presley and Andy Williams, and encouraged all of her children to study piano.

Committed to preparing nutritious meals for her family, she spent many hours gardening, canning and cooking. She was well known for baking delicious pies and a massive assortment of Christmas cookies.

She was an early advocate of recycling, making a habit picking up and properly disposing of recyclable materials during her morning walks, years before it caught on in the mainstream.

After raising her children, she worked for 18 years as a cook at Holy Family School, retiring in 1990.

Surviving is a brother, Daniel Castrop of Yukon, Okla.; two sons, Paul Luetkemeyer (Donna) of Freeburg and John Luetkemeyer of Columbia; five daughters, Mary Koeneman (Jay Nies) of Jefferson City, Ruth (Bill) Jaegers of Jefferson City, Joan (Kirby) Keth of Westphalia, Rose (Pete) Dyer of Jefferson City and Jean Rosendale; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Henry (Mary) Castrop and Ferdinand (Rosemary) Castrop; six sisters, Geraldine (John) Poettgen, Mary Jane (Carl) Mertz, Adeline (Norman) Kolar, Rose (Peter) Eyermann, Emily (Wayne) Gollub and infant Esther Castrop; and a son-in-law, Ronald Koeneman.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 110 Oliver St. in Freeburg.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the church, with Father James Finder presiding and Father Richard Frank concelebrating, followed by a luncheon and celebration of her life in the Freeburg American Legion Hall.

She donated her body to the University of Missouri for research.

Memorial contributions can be made for Masses or to Holy Family Church and School, in care of the funeral home.
