Larry R. Hoback, Sr. 78, of California, Mo passed away peacefully, at home, on April 23, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born on May 16, 1945, in Jamestown, Mo to Hubert Dearing and Dortha Austella (Fahrni) Hoback.

Larry was united in marriage on October 26, 2006, to the love of his life Betsy Allen who survives of the home.

He attended 1st-3rd grade at Kramer and attended Jamestown until his junior year of school. Then the family moved to California, where he completed high school and graduated in 1963. Larry attended the University of Missouri Columbia and studied Animal Husbandry.

He was a member of High Point Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Director for many years and an active member wherever needed.

He managed MFA Cooperative, California and retired after 20 years of service. Larry joined his son Bob in the fencing business and built Hoback Fence in 1995. Larry doing the residential and Bob the farm fence. He retired in 2014. Larry was a founding member of High Point Renewal Association, the R. H. Denker Scholarship Fund and served as president of the High Point Cemetery Association.

Through this long battle, Larry never lost sight of his faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. He would say” I don’t really know what Heaven will be like, but I know it will be wonderful.” He was known for his calm demeanor, his love of his family, and his belief that everyone is basically good. He guided many young people to become good adults through his work ethic, honesty, willingness to give them a chance, and his unwavering love of God. Larry was always ready to travel, enjoyed gardening, woodworking (his favorite thing was cutting boards, which he gave away freely) and playing pitch with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Betsy; one son, Bob (Miranda) Hoback of California; stepchildren, Debbie Zucca, Tina (Mike) Donohue, Jeff (Jill) Hanes, Mark Hanes; three grandchildren, Emma Hoback, Lydia Hoback and Kloe Hoback.: 10 step-grandchildren: Tabitha, Charlie, Kari, Ben, Colleen, Katie, Spencer, Tucker, Donavin and Matayah; siblings, Marylin Durk, Jim (Irene) Hoback; and sisters-in-law, Vicki Hoback and Beverly Perrin.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents. Siblings, Dennis Hoback, Betty Rose Bickel, Phillis Walters.

Visitation will be 9-11 am. Monday, April 29, 2024, High Point Baptist Church in High Point with a funeral service beginning at 11.00 am. with Pastor Glen Golden and Pastor Hebert Mena officiating.

 A private family burial will take place at High Point Cemetery.

 Memorials are suggested to R. H. Denker Scholarship Fund, High Point Cemetery Association or to High Point Baptist Church

  1. Prayers and sympathy for Betsy and family. The Lord got a good one and I know the angels are singing. Larry was very stronge In his faith and always had some advice for anyone needing some peace. He’ll be missed.

  2. He was my inspiration after my cancer diagnosis! I admired his positive attitude in spite of what he faced. I’m sure he , Fred and Bob Denker will have many conversations! My sympathy, love and prayers for his family.

    He was a very faithful servant. A positive person and full of wisdom.
    We both were going through cancer at the same time.
    As a great support person he was always checking on each other.
    God pulled a good and faithful servant for a new home where he is all perfectly healed and gained his wings ,ow!

  4. Larry was a good friend to our family, always. When my girls (twins), Heater and Heidi ( Medlen) were small he’d set one on each knee and tell the the story of ” the big bad wolve” which he always recalled Heidi said, ”
    ,”wolf ez”. And Larry would just laugh and laugh. Such an infectious personality.
    RIP good and faithful servant! You are loved by so many many.

  5. Larry was a truly nice person, always calm & smiling anytime I saw him. He was a good friend to so many, including the Snyder family. May he rest in the Peace of Christ.

  6. Larry was one of the nicest men I have ever known, I am sorry for your loss Betsy but happy we all had him for as long as we did. He was always just a plain old good man. He was always in good spirits even the last time I saw him. Larry, you will be missed!!!! Enjoy heaven though, you sure earned it!!

  7. Larry was a great boss. I got the privilege to work for him 3 years till his retirement. Could ask for a better boss. I stayed in touch through the years and visited many times. He was a very respectful guy and will miss him.

  8. Larry will be missed. We were friends with him in High Point community. We know he is happy in heaven now. No more pain..
