Larry Leroy Oliver, 86, of Westphalia, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by his family. While Larry was his first name, everyone knew him as Leroy

He was born April 15, 1936, in Belle, Missouri to John Oliver and Mary Ellen (Ridenhour) Oliver Shockley.

He was a 1954 graduate of Belle High School.

Leroy joined the United States Army in January of 1955 and served till his discharge in December of 1956.

He was united in marriage on December 17, 1974, in Vienna, Missouri to Jane Elizabeth Maasen.

Leroy began working for his uncles at the clay pits in Belle followed by owning and operating a pool hall, becoming a barber, and driving for UPS.  Leroy continued to be a truck driver working for the Beaufort Transfer Company and a member of the Teamsters Local 833, until his retirement. After retirement, he spent his time visiting family, friends and especially his grandchildren who he cherished dearly. When he was not visiting, he spent time in his garden that he was proud to put out each year, continuing to support his family.

Leroy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Belle where he was baptized on January 21, 1948.

He was a member of the Westphalia Lions Club and was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, playing cards, shooting pool, playing baseball/fast-pitch softball in his younger years, and watching the KC Chiefs, MU Tiger and especially, the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Oliver, Westphalia; five children, Jack Oliver (Kathy Bardwell), Jefferson City; Peter (Terrie) Martin, Jefferson City; Cara (Alan) Dickneite, Freeburg; Andy (Jennifer) Oliver, Westphalia; Erin (Dusty) Fick, Koeltztown; eleven grandchildren, Brock Martin, Brody Martin, Mitchell Falter, Carmen Falter, Maura Falter, Baylee Oliver, Alaynee Oliver, Marlee Oliver, Reed Oliver, Oliver Fick, Adeline Fick; and a brother, Gary “Bubby” Oliver, California, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Oliver; his mother and step-father, Mary and Clarence Shockley; and a step brother, Bill Shockley.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg with a service to follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Debo officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Westphalia.

Memorials are suggested to Leroy Oliver’s family for a future benefit yet to be determine by his family.
