Leonard Henry “Duke” Dusheke, 91, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born on March 26, 1918, in Jefferson City, the son of Edward John and Rose Elizabeth Arens Dusheke. He was a 1936 graduate of St. Peter High School. Duke was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was united in marriage on June 10, 1950, in Jefferson City, to Angeline Catherine “Angie” Benne who survives at the home. Mr. Dusheke worked for forty years in Jefferson City for the United States Post Office and retired as Postmaster of Jamestown. After retirement, Duke worked for Brinks, Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Division of Employment Security, and Missouri State Courts Administration. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Perpetual Adoration group, Ave Marie Rosary group, and St. Peter Holy Name Society. He was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Helias Counsel 1054 where he held 4th Degree, lifetime member of American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5, and lifetime member of VFW Post 1003. He was also a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and American Postal Workers Union. Duke enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and spending time at his cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks. He also was a sports enthusiast. Duke loved his family especially his children and grandchildren. Other survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Jean “Shari” and Jim Thomas, Lexington, Mo; Susan Lynn and Bob Puhr, Dawsonville, Ga; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary Kent and Laura Dusheke, Raytown, Mo; and four grandchildren, Sara Puhr, Ryan Dusheke, Jessica Dusheke, and Julie Dusheke. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard John Dusheke. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. J. David Maher officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum.
