Leslie Emerson “Chip” Long, of Columbia, MO, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024, surrounded by his family. Chip fought a courageous battle with stomach cancer and left us too soon, at the age of 58.

He was born on May 26, 1965, in Charlotte, North Carolina to the parents of Robert and Joan (Whitley) Long.

Shortly after, the family moved to Temple Terrace, FL. In 1984 he graduated from King High School in Tampa, FL.

He worked at his uncle’s starter and alternator shop until the age of 24 when he decided to move to Missouri to attend Lincoln University.

There he would meet his future wife in the spring of 1991. He was united in marriage to Mayra Eiken on May 23, 1992, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos, MO.

Chip was a self-employed contractor for many years. He loved restoring classic vehicles and motorcycles and could always be found tinkering with something. Chip valued faith and family above all. He loved road trips and vacationing with his family. He especially loved watching movies and spending time with his wife and kids.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mayra; two children, Jacob Long and Sarah Long of the home; two siblings, Robert “Bob” (Wanda) Long of Braselton, Georgia; James (Martee) Tebow of Abilene, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2024, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with a prayer service beginning at 1 p.m. Visitation will resume at church on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. with Reverend Kelechi Uzuegbu officiating.
