Loretta Josephine Meers, 83, of New Bloomfield, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at Boone Hospital.

She was born on February 16, 1942, in St. Charles, Missouri, the daughter of Emil W. and Anna M. (Welge) Schiermeier. 

She was united in marriage on July 20, 1963, in Orchard Farm, Missouri, to Ronald Edgar Meers who preceded her in death on January 6, 2018.

Loretta retired as a school cook for the Jefferson Jr. High School in St. Charles.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Holts Summit, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She volunteered throughout the church and could be counted upon to fill in wherever she was needed.  She enjoyed being in a Cousin’s Club and the Birthday Club and had many happy times with them.

She loved to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially during their sporting events.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafting, puzzles, and her biggest delight was feeding her favorite bird, the hummingbirds.  She had five feeders that she kept full and loved watching them.   

Survivors include two children, Kathy Meers, who still lives on the family farm in New Bloomfield and Jeff (Velvet Eynard) Meers, Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Allen (Terri) Rimert, Kayla Rimert, Periann Rimert, Jacob Meers, Tyler Meers, and Logan Meers; two great-grandchildren, Case Rimert, and Hunter Rimert; one brother, Ricky (Carol) Schiermeier, Williamsburg, Missouri; and a brother-in-law, Harvey Niemeyer, Williamsburg, Missouri. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; a granddaughter, Jessica Rimert; and a sister, Eunice Niemeyer.

Visitation will be 3-7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Trimble Funeral Homes, Jefferson City.  An additional visitation will be 12-1:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church in Holts Summit with Rev. Michael Diener officiating.

Burial will be Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the South Callaway FFA Chapter or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

  1. Loretta was such a thoughtful person. I kept in touch with her on Faebook. I will miss seeing her news and comets.

  2. I got to meet her through Randy Foster. We went to Lawrence Kansas and stayed with them on our way home. She was making a wedding cake on slabs of wood. She was talented. She will be so missed.

  8. What a wonderful Lady! Grew up in Orchard Farm with her, rode the bus everyday, such a pleasure to set with her and talk about how the day went. Seeing what she did in life really proves how great she was! While it is hard to say goodbye, we must remember what a blessing we gained from knowing her, rest in peace, Loretta.
