Marie (Lottie) Branch Rackers, age 85, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. Marie was born on Aug. 1, 1920, in Wainwright, MO, the first child of Robert Clinton Branch and Nealy ODell Wilson Cain Branch, both deceased. On Nov. 7, 1942, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City, Marie married Lawrence Henry Rackers. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1959. Marie worked at Tweedie Shoe Factory before she married, but then devoted her time to her husband and to raising their five children. When her youngest children were in grade school, Marie went back to work as a drapery seamstress at Baclesse Interiors, and then as a cook in the Jefferson City Public School system, retiring after more than 20 years of service. Marie delighted family and friends alike with her passion for cooking she was famous for her blackberry cobbler. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her family and playing cards with her friends at Hyder Apartments. Marie was very proud of her family, and enjoyed telling all about the many accomplishments and yet-undiscovered talents of her very special kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Marie is survived by three sons and two daughters, one daughter-in-law, and one son-in-law: Larry Rackers of Jefferson City; Stan Rackers of Kansas City, MO; Gnell Rackers Bruemmer and Earl Bruemmer of Wardsville; Debra Rackers Scott of Overland Park, KS; and Mark Rackers and Chris Holtkamp Rackers, of Wardsville. Marie was also blessed with nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Marie is also survived by two brothers, one brother-in-law, and four sisters-in-law: Frank and Helen Branch of Jefferson City (formerly of Lake Havasu City, Arizona); Robert (Junior) and Viola Branch of Versailles, MO; Jeannette Branch of Jefferson City; George Brocious of Warsaw, MO; and Delores Branch of Jefferson City. Marie was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Dorris Jackson Rackers; five brothers, Raymond Cain, Marion Cain, Jack Branch, Robert (Bobbie) Branch, and Norman Branch; two sisters, Dorothy Cain Anderson and Fannie Branch Brocious; and a sister-in-law, Leona Branch. Marie also had one sister and one brother who died in infancy. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2006, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Brendan Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 14th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Helias Foundation, POB 694, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0694.
