Born in: St. Martins, Missouri
Resided in: St. Martins, Missouri

Louis George Schulte, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many passed peacefully into eternity Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He was 87 at the time of his passing.

Louis was born on May 6, 1937; the second of seven children born to Anton Schulte and Catherine Distler Schulte who lived in the St. Martins area.

Louis attended St. Martin Parish Grade School and served in the United States Army from August 1960 until August 1962. He was stationed at Fort Gordon, GA, where he qualified as a radio teletype operator in February 1961. A large portion of his time in the service was spent in Germany. He enjoyed his time there and had fond memories of traveling with his Army buddies.

Louis and Marilyn Kay Brondel were married on August 3, 1963, at St. Martins and the two enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Laura and Alan were born to this union. Marilyn survives at the home.

Louis was an electrician, plumber, and jack-of–all-trades. He never saw a reason to buy something new when the old version could be fixed. He could never have enough tools, and we have boxes of tools to prove it. He was a part of Anton Schulte Electric until 2000; then worked for himself from 2000 until December 2014. Early on Alfred Schulte was his trusted assistant, and then Bernard Rustemeyer was always on call.

Except for a few years after Louis and Marilyn were married, he was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church. When repairs were needed in either the church or the school, Louis was always ready to use his skills to fix the problem. While Louis was a hard worker, he enjoyed playing golf, baseball, woodworking, and time spent with his grandsons, Eric and Ryan. He was an accomplished croquet player and was always ready to challenge someone to a game. We consider ourselves blessed beyond measure for his steadfast love and the values of hard work, faith and family that he imparted to our lives.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Schulte, St. Martins; daughter Laura Haslag, St. Martins; son Alan (Jennifer) Schulte, St. Louis, MO; grandson Eric (Melissa) Haslag, Overland Park, KS; grandson Ryan Haslag, St. Louis, MO; great granddaughter Emery Haslag, Overland Park, KS; sisters Mary Ann (James) Dunn, Springfield, MO; Dorothy (Bob) Bruemmer; St. Martins; Elizabeth (Steve) Dunn, Jefferson City; and in-laws Rosemary Schulte, Wardsville; and Frank “Butch” Distler, Jefferson City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Rosaline “Rosie” Distler; and brothers Anthony Schulte and James Schulte; sister-in-law Linda Schulte.
