Lucius Jones, 90, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, September 25, 2008, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on June 16, 1918, in Birmingham, Ala., the son of the late Jesse and Roxie Hill Jones. He was married on Nov. 30, 1942, in Tulsa, Okla., to Vivian Clarice Dotson who survives at the home. Mr. Jones was a 1936 graduate of Industrial High School (now Parker High School), Birmingham, Ala.; a 1938 graduate of Alabama A&M University, Normal, Ala.; and a 1971 graduate of Lincoln University. He retired in October of 1988 as Production Printer and Instructor in the Department of Technology and Industrial Education at Lincoln University where he had served for forty years. He was also employed with the Oklahoma Eagle Newspaper in Tulsa, Okla., and with Modern Litho-Print Co. in Jefferson City. Mr. Jones was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and past chairman of the Board of Deacons, and Director of the Male Chorus. He was a member of the International Graphic Arts Education Association; Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; National Collegiate Athletic Association; Prince Hall Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons; President of the Board of the Adult Basic Literacy Education Association; Jefferson City Development Commission; and faculty representative to the Missouri (Mid-America) Athletic Association. He was a member of the Jefferson City Chapter of the NAACP; United Investment Club; Community Center Association; and vice-chairman of the Jefferson City Development Commission. He represented Lincoln University for many years at both the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association and National Collegiate Athletic Association conventions. He was Parade Marshal for the Lincoln University Homecoming Parade for ten years, and served as co-chair of the Danforth Foundation Midwest Associates program. He greatly enjoyed music, photography, model trains, gardening, golf, and reading. Other survivors include one daughter, Vivian Eilene Jones, Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Gladys Davis, Birmingham, Ala.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Lucius Darwin Jones; and one brother, Jesse Jones, Jr. Memorial service and reception will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Cornell C. Sudduth, Sr., officiating. Private graveside services were held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Longview Cemetery, Jefferson City.
