Lydia Westerman Groner,98, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at her home. She was born on February 22, 1906, in Westphalia, the daughter of Henry Westerman and Anna Winkelman Westerman. She was married on October 11, 1932 in Westphalia to John H. Groner who died on November 18, 1970. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard S. and Joann Groner, Bernard J. and Donna Groner, both of Jefferson City; and the Rev. John W. Groner, of St. Robert; nine grandchildren, Maria Groner Watson, Alice Groner, Jennifer Groner, Amanda Groner, Cheryl Flickinger, the Rev. Eric Groner, Laurie Honan, Yvonne Nelli, Kurt Groner; and eight great-grandchildren, Zachary and Aubrey Flickinger, Althea, Eleanor and Sophia Honan, Ryan and Rachel Nelli, and Grace Dittmer. She was preceded in death by two sons, Henry Groner and Robert Groner; two brothers; and three sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. John W. Groner, a son, Celebrant; and the Rev. Eric Groner, a grandson; and other area priests, Concelebrating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Endowment Fund, 1206 East McCarty St. Jefferson City, MO 65101. The family wishes to thank Emma Verslues, St. Marys Hospital, Villa Marie, Dr. Don Miller, and Dr. Lory Feeler, with a special thanks to her granddaughters who cared for her in the last weeks of her life. She graduated from St. Elizabeths Academy, St. Louis and attended the Teachers School at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla. Mrs. Groner was a teacher at the Winkelman School, the Scheulen School, the Descher School, and the Folk School, all in Osage County. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Daughters of Isabella; St. Anns Sodality of Immaculate Conception Church; a Life member of St. Marys Hospital Auxiliary; and helped with Meals on Wheels.
