Margaret Ann Margie Backes, 70, of St. Thomas, MO, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at her residence. She was born on May 15, 1934 in St. Thomas, the daughter of Thomas Herman and Margaret Catherine Kaiser Luebbering. She was married on May 11, 1957 in St. Thomas to Bernard Antone Backes who survives at the home. A 1952 graduate of St. Peter High School, Mrs. Backes was employed with the Missouri Division of Employment Security; Missouri Highway Department; Home Health Care; and the Missouri Department of Revenue until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St Thomas; and the Altar Society. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Carol Backes, St. Thomas; and Timothy and Karen Backes, Honey Creek; one daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Jerold Eggen, St. Thomas; fourteen grandchildren, Michael Backes, Joseph Eggen, Jim Backes, Christopher Backes, David Eggen, Elizabeth Backes, Teresa Backes, Lucas Eggen, Stephen Backes, Maria Backes, Rebekah Backes, Emily Backes, Paul Backes, and Matthew Backes; and two sisters, Marie Luebbering and Delphine Luebbering, both of St. Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Jeanine Marie Backes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St Thomas, with the Rev. Mark A. Porterfield officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1st, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. Ten Mile Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109 (893-5251), with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
