Margaret "Margie" VanLoo

Margaret “Margie” Teresa VanLoo, 87, of Wardsville passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was born August 28, 1938 in Linn to the late Theodore and Catherine (Adelhardt) Linnenbrink.  Margie attended St. George Catholic Grade School and was a 1956 graduate of Linn High School, where she was valedictorian.  On September 8, 1962, Margie married Paul VanLoo at St. George Catholic Church, Linn.  She worked for the State of Missouri for several years and then was a stay-at-home Mom with her son, Ted.  She did day care in her home and later went to work for Cole County.  After retiring in 2000 from the Cole County Assessor’s Office, Margie took care of her two grandsons, Jake and Luke.  She said that those were the best years of her life. 

Margie and Paul were active members of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville.  Margie joined the Lady’s Sodality and was a participant in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel from its’ beginning.  She was a St. Louis Cardinal fan and also a fan of watching her grandsons play sports.  She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and watching TV, especially the Cardinals & game shows.  The Price Is Right and Jeopardy were her favorites. She said watching Jeopardy let her know how much she did not know.

Survivors include her son; Ted (Kelly) VanLoo of Wardsville; two grandsons, Jake (Lauren) VanLoo, Luke VanLoo, and soon-to-be great granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Aggie Grothoff of Taos and Judy VanLoo of Jefferson City; brother-in-law, Jerome “Pooch” VanLoo of Columbia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margie was further preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, two brothers, Wilbert and Norbert Linnenbrink, four sisters, Leona (Ray)  Jaegers, Marcie (Wilford) Dudenhoffer, Lillian and Lorene Linnenbrink, father and mother in-law Clem and Frances VanLoo, sister-in-law Anna Marie VanLoo, brothers-in-law Clete VanLoo, Bill VanLoo, and Tom Grothoff.

We would like to thank her nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Arlene Broeker for their many visits during Mom’s residence at Harbor Place in Linn.  We appreciate the excellent care and kindness given by Gina and all the Harbor Place staff.   

Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2026 from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. David Cox officiating.  Entombment will be in the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Stanislaus Foundation.
